Delivering a studio set-up within two weeks may sound impossible. However, the Triple Audio team was eager to take on the challenge nonetheless. Radio4All, the newest station in the land of radio, needs a temporary studio in Amsterdam-Oost, wanting to start producing their broadcasts as quickly as possible.
Radio4All, as you might expect from the name, is a station with a little something for everyone. Listeners can expect a large range of creators, music and topics. Radio4All wants to give a platform to creators who don't have a lot of experience in radio. Daniël Nussbaum, operational manager at the station tells us: 'We want to lower the barrier of entry for radio so that everyone can follow their dreams.' Furthermore, the station decided to focus on the younger generation, which is a first for a national radio station.
It's clear that Radio4All wants to do things differently and is looking to innovate in the land of radio. Innovation is something that makes us at Triple Audio very excited, as well. This shared mindset paved the way for a wonderful collaboration.
Experimenting with Axia Quasar
The request called for a complete setup with room for interpretation as to the exact specifications. What was clear from the start however, was that Radio4All wanted to experiment with the latest techniques for their temporary studio. Radio4All aspires to create the studio of the future and, according to Daniël, Triple Audio is a partner befitting this goal:
'Whenever we come up with a proposition like ''could we try this'', then no idea is too outlandish. It's fun to be able to pioneer freely by having such a level playing field.'
Triple Audio offered to install the Axia Quasar for the sake of flexibility and the possibilities available. This console runs solely on Audio over IP (AoIP) which results in endless possibilities along with the highest quality possible. Besides, this console is perfect for a temporary setup that needed to be built quickly, like this one.
For this set, the Audisi ONE platform was offered in the form of the GML Playout system, inviting a seamless integration between Axia Quasar and Audisi GML. Here, Triple Audio is the right party for the job. As system integrators, Triple Audio got to work straight away to ensure that these two systems interoperate seamlessly. Moreover, visual radio (which will be mentioned later) can be controlled through the console, as well.
Additionally, you will find the Angry Audio C3 headphone audio processor in this setup which ensures that the DJ's headphones sound the way it sounds On-Air. For phone connections in the broadcasts, the Telos VXs is used. It supports Voice over IP and can be controlled through the Telos VSet6. At the guests table you will find a self-support tablet PC which acts as a streamlined control surface, giving DJ's all the controls they need to create their broadcasts with ease.
From drawing to reality
The appearance of this temporary studio is of great importance for Radio4All. The studio includes visual radio, delivered by Jeroen van der Plank from AIGU. Therefore, it was important that the studio also looks good on the live stream. That is why Triple Audio delivered a temporary setup with the same quality as a permanent studio. The height-adjustable table with custom-built profiles for the Axia Quasar gives the studio a clean look.
After surveying the space itself, Jeroen made a digital rendition of the room. Barely a week had passed between submitting the digital drafts and installing everything on-site. Triple Audio's engineers put in relentless effort to deliver such a workload in so little time. An achievement to be proud of! Despite the fact that the project is not over yet, Daniël looks back positively on this project and the role of Triple Audio within it. 'There's clear communication, plans get discussed and goals get reached. And all of those are positive qualities.'
'You are open at office times but for service you are open 24/7 and that's really important.'
Here at Triple Audio, we are happy with this collaboration and love to be a part of these developments in the land of radio!
