Prestige at 't Spui

Are you walking by the library at 't Spui in The Hague? Don't forget to look inside! Here you can see a new radio studio. Triple Audio has custom-built this studio for the district The Hague. This studio is fully operational through Audio over IP (AoIP), but we'll tell you more about that later.

A solid base
When you look inside, the first thing you'll notice is the furniture. This piece of furniture has height-adjustable legs and can be moved around with a custom-made cart. These features ensure that the furniture can be used everywhere. We've gone through a whole process to make this studio's furniture, you can see the steps we took in the video below.

As shown in the video, this studio furniture is equipped with SmartLed. SmartLed is a product by Triple Audio. This led strip is controlled by SmartControl, also a Triple Audio product, and reacts to signals from the studio. When you turn on a microphone the corresponding part of the led strip will turn red. Is someone calling the studio? The light of the led strip will start to blink. The SmartLed led strip is controlled through an intuitive interface where each LED can be assigned a desired colour.

Sound and visuals
The looks of the furniture are not only there for guests and presenters, but there also are three cameras that take care of the visual radio. These cameras are being triggered by Audisi VID as someone spreaks into the corresponding microphone. This way the focus of the video is always the person that is speaking. This provides an added value to your broadcast web stream.

Sound processing is handled with the help of the Sound4 BIG VOICE. This processing structure includes an advanced DeEsser, 3-band noise gate, Pre 4-band parametric EQ, 3-band dynamic processor, Post 4-band parametric EQ and a high-speed brickwall limiter. All of this may not directly ring a bell, but it provides a nice sound that can also be used in full AES67 AoIP.

After processing, the sound arrives at the mixer. For the signal to the mixer conversion to analogue is not required because this studio has an Axia iQx. The Axia iQx is fully compatible with AES67 AoIP, saving costs for special cables and audio matrix's. In addition, the Axia iQx is not just a mixer, it is a compact and versatile control panel with a built-in engine. Normally a control panel is connected to a separate mix engine, the 'brains' of the system; with the iQx it is already built in.

DIO02 in action

The Sonifex AVN-DIO03 is used to listen to the final mix on all of the headphones. It recieves audio via AES67 AoIP and converts it to an analogue audio signal. The Sonifex AVN-DIO03 is a reliable product and of good quality, so it fits well in this setup.

CTA Cart
The equipment for the Central Technical Area (CTA) has been incorporated into a flight case. This was a special wish of the client which makes it possible to use the studio and the CTA at temporary locations throughout  the building.

In this CTA we find, among other things, the previously mentioned Sound4 BIG VOICE ant the Telos VX Prime+. Telos VX Prime+ is a Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone system. With this system you have more possibilities with the same phone number which saves you costs. Telos VX Prime+ has 8 high-qualitiy VoIP channels, this is ideal for two to four studios or smaller stations. The two studios can easily switch conversations or do a contest with multiple callers. Last but not least, the Telos VX Prime+ also makes phone calls sound better thanks to built-in audio processing.

Will this be your studio?
With the new studio being installed, the central library of The Hague now has two complete studios and everyone is welcome to visit and perhaps even use these studios. For Example, Den Haag FM uses the studio in the central hall for 'Haags bakkie' every morning from ten to twelve. On Saturdays the political program 'Spuigasten' is presented and being broadcast from the same studio.

From the studios, guests and reporters can make live contact with Hilversum or regional and local broadcast stations throughout the country. In addition, live TV/Radio and online broadcasts can be facilitated.

Studio B, the second studio on the first floor of the library has room for up to 180 guests. Would you like to use one of these studios of the district of The Hague? Please contact media@denhaag.nl or call 070-353 22 99.
