Triple Audio has realized a beautiful television studio for the study Creative Media and Game Technologies at Breda University of Applied Sciences. Cameras and lights were already present, we took care of the technical aspects for the direction and infrastructure. This television studio works through Audio over IP (AoIP).
Control room
Every television studio needs a control room from which the broadcast or recording is controlled. In this room you will find an Axia iQ 8-fader broadcast mixer combined with an Axia QOR.32. The eight channels on this mixer can be used for different purposes.
For example, they are used for the Quicklink TX Duo. When guests can't come tot the studio, they can use Skype to set up a live connection. Through the Quicklink TX Duo this communication can be broadcast in high quality. The communication is also sent tot he Axia QOR.32 which makes it accessible on the mixer.
In addition, it is possible to create an IFB, Interruptible FoldBack. The Axia iQ makes a separate mix that only the presenter will hear. For example, the presenter can hear the skype conversation through his earpiece which makes it possible for the presenter to have a conversation with the caller. Through his separate fader channel, it is also possible to talk with the presenter from the control room. You can recognise this from broadcasts with 'Breaking News'.
Sending audio and video
The link between the Quicklink TX Duo and the Axia QOR.32, as described above, is established with the Axia IP-Audio driver. This driver is a digital soundcard. It can send/receive AoIP signals to/from your connected devices in the Liverwire+/AES67 network. In this case the audio of the Quicklink TX Duo goes through the IP-Audio driver to the Axia QOR.32 that is connected to the Axia iQ.
The footage of the cameras is transmitted through an HD-SDI-connection. This connection goes through a wall box to the control room. The video signal then enters the Blackmagic Live Production Switcher. This piece of equipment makes it possible to switch between the different cameras while broadcasting or recording.
Telos infinity
Besides the Quicklink TX Duo, Breda University also has a Telos Infinity panel in the control room. Through this panel the director is able to talk to the people behind the cameras and the Floor Manager in the studio. A Telos Inifinity Beltpack that is connected tot the Livewire+/AES67 network is mounted to the tripod of each camera. This way, they can't fall and the audio signal is always linked to their respective camera. There is one loose beltpack in this system, used by the Floor Manager.
From the control room, it is possible to talk to each beltpack, and therefore cameraperson, separately. The person behind the camera wears an Beyerdynamic Headset DT 290 MK II, this ensures that only the person from whom this message is intended can hear it. Answering is easy by pressing the talkback button on the Infinity beltpack. Audio comes through the integrated microphone from the Beyerdynamic Headset. this way the director can always broadcast the best footage available.
Presentation desk
The eye catcher of this studio has to be the presentation desk. This desk is completely custom-made and therefore it fits perfectly in this setup. The shape allows for up to three people to take place at the desk. The colors of the desk match with the style of Breda University and the 3D-elements create contrast on screen.
Right on time
In the control room you can also use the Triple Audio ChronoFlex for broadcast. This is a clock with a clean interface that makes sure your broadcast is exactly on time. Breda University uses ChronoFlex to show the current time and set timers, but there are many other possibilities. For example, add an RSS feed or watch on or more NDI-streams from your network.
Do not disturb!
When broadcasting you don't want people just walking in. Therefore, they use red light signalling at the door with a Philips Hue lamp. When the studio goes live this lamp is triggered by SmartControl, the tool to make your environment smart. It connects different devices in your studio through the 'If This Then That' principle, this way the devices can react to each other.
